Characteristics of Carchelo Selecto
Carchelo Selecto is a red wine produced in the D.O. Jumilla by Bodegas Carchelo, in the municipality of Jumilla, Murcia.
Bodegas Carchelo has 100 planted hectares, between their own plots and those they rent. They are located in the Regional Park Sierra del Carche, with an average altitude of 600 metres. The plots are located in different areas of the region, on calcareous soils with low organic matter, good drainage on the surface and good water retention in deeper layers. Thanks to its geographic location —80 km from the Mediterranean and less than 500 metres altitude— it has a Mediterranean-continental climate. It has irregular rainfall, ranging from 200-400mm/year.
Carchelo Selecto is a red wine made from Monastrell, Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, which come from vineyards that have not been treated with plant protection products. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with local yeasts, and malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels with a minimum of 24 months in the bottle before it hits the market.
Carchelo Selecto is an intense but elegant wine. Ripe fruit and flowery notes combined with balsamic and creamy notes. Wine with a great ageing potential.

DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha. The vineyards of Jumilla are spread over the municipality of Jumilla, in Murcia, and six counties in the southeast of the province of Albacete: Ontur, Tobarra, Albatana, Hellin, Montealegre and Fuente Alamo. The main variety of the area is the Monastrell grape variety, a noble and robust variety which produces small bunches of small dark-coloured grapes very rich in sugars and other noble components.
The winery Bodegas Carcherlo, S.L., located in a privileged natural environment such as the Parque Regional Sierra del Carche, at a 1371 metres altitude, was the pioneer in the municipality of Jumilla for its policy of producing high quality wines from its own vineyards in such a successfully way that it caused the foundation of other wineries within this designation of origin.
