Characteristics of Cantos del Diablo

Cantos del Diablo is a red wine made in D.O. Méntrida from the winery Daniel Landi.
Cantos del Diablo is a single variety made from Grenache grapes that are grown on old vines more than 60 years old.
Daniel Landi practices an agriculture based on ecological farming with complete respect for the environment.
The grapes are grown on a unique estate that is located in El Real de San Vicente, a small town in la Sierra de Gredos.
They can be found at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level, north facing and a continental climate with Mediterranean influences.
The soil is granite soil with some surface sand.
The harvest is done by hand.
Daniel Landi follows a production with little intervention leaving the vineyard to express its qualities.
The grapes are destemmed and macerated at a cold temperature before the fermentation with local yeast from their own vineyards in French oak vats.
Cantos del Diablo undergoes an aging for 14 months. Firstly in 1500 litre oak casks then afterwards they pass into 500 litre barrels.
A delicious Grenache, very expressive, fresh with a lot of fineness.

Tasting notes Cantos del Diablo

It’s been a tough year at Sierra de Gredos but one with great results. The effects of adverse weather has led to low production volume for this vintage. Nighttime frosts on three consecutive days in April affected the growth cycle. During flowering, constant rains caused irregular development of the flower, resulting in the partial loss of production. This was followed by an extreme drought that lasted until the end of the year. Adding to the adverse weather, hailstorms appearing on two days, July 7 and August 28, resulted in production losses of up to 50% in some areas. Regarding the end results for the wines, according to Daniel Landi it has been challenging year, both for the vineyard and for the winery. In order to process what was a difficult vintage, they’ve had to retool the production process, with some excellent results: low production volumes but great wines that are light and refined. As Dani put it, “wines that travel northward, moving away from the Mediterranean character of the vintage.”
This plot consists of 6.3 hectares on white granite and limestone with calcareous parts.  The clear colours of these wines are not associated with corpulent wines but with fine wines, straight and full of tension. In this case, the citrus and chalk aromas invade the nose and mouth.  The texture on the palate expands as the wine ages.
Sight Cherry red colour. Bright. Nose On the nose it is complex with lots of expression. Red fruit like raspberries, strawberries and redcurrant, red flowers. Dairy notes and minerals. Taste Wonderful, tasty and delicate. A presence of red fruits on the palate. Cinnamon. Intense passage and a persistent finish.
Sight The tasting repport of this wine is being translated. Meanwhile, you can check the Spanish version.
Sight Dark cherry intense and shine color. Tear slow. Nose Aromatic complexity where mineral sensations are accompanied by fruit (mature and licorice), spices, cocoa and a touch herbaceous. Taste In the mouth is very tasty and potent. Return the fruit with notes of aging. Step-by-mouth is elegant and long, with a lingering finish that fills the mouth. A personal wine with personality.

Designation of Origin D.O. Méntrida

Winery Daniel Landi

Méntrida, like other famous wine regions of La Mancha, is steeped in history. The vines here grow under bright blue Castilian skies in a landscape which enjoys spectacular views of the snowy mantle of the Sierra de Gredos. The character of the wines produced here, tough and honest, were always enjoyed by the Habsburg Dynasty in Madrid. That being said, a new generation of wine is emerging, albeit at a slower rate than other regions in Spain, renovating wineries with modern equipment with a generation of young winemakers who are producing pleasant and balanced wines, some have even managed to recover the local flavour of its wines using the classic earthenware jars, now appreciated and fashionable in other areas.
