Characteristics of Camins del Priorat

Camins del Priorat is a red wine from Priorat, prepared by Alvaro Palacios. This winery is located in the town of Gratallops, in the centre of the Priorat (Tarragona).

Camins del Priorat is a complete blend of Carignan, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The grapes come from vineyards planted at an altitude of between 300 and 600m, on terraces and steep slopes of slate soils.

The grapes ripen under a benevolent Mediterranean climate, with over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually and less than 380 mm annual rainfall. The vineyards are close to the sea, which gives them the freshness of summer.

Regarding the development of Camins del Priorat, the wort undergoes a temperature controlled fermentation in cement vats, stainless steel tanks and wooden vats. Subsequently malolactic fermentation also occurs.

Finally, prior to marketing, this young wine from Priorat is aged in new French oak barrels and wooden vats for 8 months.

Camins del Priorat represents the attempt of the Alvaro Palacios winery to disclose the essence of Priorat at an affordable price.

Tasting notes Camins del Priorat

We present the new 2016 vintage, characterised by the wettest winterin the last five years. Not only did it rain in winter, but there was also wet weather up until summer arrived, especially inMarch and April. In summer everything changed, and it was one of the driest inhistory, with only 28 litres being recorded between July and October. If we compare the temperatures in 2012 and 2016, the 2016 crophad to endure a much colder winter than in 2012, which turned outto be positive, since the frost cleared the fields ofvine parasites. During the spring, lower temperaturesthan in 2012 were also recorded.Due to all these climatic conditions there was a delay insprouting, which began on March 28th, and which led to a delayin flowering of between three and four weeks.Once the summer arrived, the Priorat got all the luck, sincethe rains disappeared, while in the rest of Europethey were incessant. It was something that nobody expected considering thewinter we’d had. Taking into account the delay insprouting, the harvest started around mid-October on some ofthe estates.Obtaining fresh wines with an extraordinary acidity is dueto this long duration of the grape in the strain that has so characterisedthis vintage.
The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
Sight Bright cherry colour with violet rims. Nose It has a rich expression of red fruit (cherries, plums, raspberries ...), with spicy nuances and an attractive mineral note. Taste The entry is friendly and tasty, with a good balance. The wood is well assembled with a fruity finish.

Sight Intense dark cherry colour with violet nuances. Clean and bright wine with abundant tears. Nose Clean, high intensity nasal aromas in which the red and black fruit notes stand out along with nice and sweet toasted and spicy aromas on an interesting mineral background. Taste In the palate, this red wine is expressive and intense. It has a powerful and mellow attack and a fresh mid palate, with a good acidity and marked tannins. Nice finish with fruity, milky, mineral, roasted and spicy notes. Very pleasant.
Sight Dark cherry colour with violet reflections. Bright and clean wine with a high robe and good and abundant tears. Nose Very intense and very enjoyable aromas. A good load of very expressive, ripe and juicy red and black fruit notes is released along with abundant hints of flowers on an elegant mineral background. It gradually evolves while a wide range of aromas is released, in which the notes of spices, the milky hints and the toasted aromas nicely accompany the notes of fruit. Its elegant balsamic background provides it with freshness. Taste Camins del Priorat is a broad wine which coats the mouth. It has a silky and tasty mid palate, with noticeable notes of fruit and flowers. It is intense but not powerful and shows polished tannins. It has a slightly marked acidity. This wine has a good but not very long finish.  It is a very elegant, tasty and inviting wine. Very nice wine which will help us discover the friendly face of Priorat.
Sight Dark cherry colour with violet edges. Bright and with good tear. Nose Very pleasant and with a medium intensity. Its charge of fruit fruit is released over a good floral background with slate mineral hints and balsamic and herbal nuances that freshen the wine. Subtle milky touches and light toasted touches are also noticed. Taste Camins del Priorat is a broad and mouth-filling wine with a round, silky and very tasty mid palate and a high presence of fruit and flowers. Intense (not powerful) and with polished tannins. Slightly sharp acidity. Good finish but not too long. A very elegant and tasty wine that invites to have another helping. Very nice and perfect to discover the friendly face of the D.O. Priorat.

Sight Dark cherry colour with violet trims. Bright and with good legs. Nose

Very good aromatic intensity where red and black fruits stand out accompanied by a floral note and lactic, mineral hints.

Taste

It is in the palate, where this red wine from Priorat shows more intensity. Large attack that immediately fills the mouth, with a nice mid palate, very polished and tasty, intense. Lots of fruit with slight hints of cocoa and creamy notes. Long and powerful aftertaste. A very elegant intense wine.

Sight Intense cherry color, upper-middle layer. Nose The nose has sweet notes of barrel, red fruit notes. With a bit of time shows slight mineral notes.
Taste Flavor is light, with a mineral finish. Soft tannins well blended with a slight acidity.

    Production area D.O.Q. Priorat

    Winery Álvaro Palacios

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
