Characteristics of Camino Romano

This new vintage from Camino Romano, is a vintage that has been classified as 'very good' in D.O. Ribera del DueroCamino Romano has been produced in D.O. Ribera del Duero by Bodegas Dominio Romano.

This wine is a single variety Tinto Fino (100%) grown from a rigorous selection of vines which are between 15 to 30 years old.

As for the production, in order to extract the maximum aromatic potential of the grape, they use "cold soaking", a modern technique that extracts aromas and colour of the wine with little input from the tannins.

Finally, Camino Romano undergoes an aging of 12 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels of 2 and 3 years old.

Tasting notes Camino Romano

After a dry winter, spring came loaded with rain. Thankfully, this water was stored, since it was much needed during the extremely dry summer. The low temperatures during spring delayed the sprouting of the vines, which led the growth cycle to start with delay. However, this delay was offset thanks to the high temperatures recorded in July and August, to the point of delaying ripening in those younger vineyards. The 2016 vintage beat the production record of the 2014 vintage. And not only in production, but also in quality due to the excellent weather conditions and the excellent health of the vineyards. The wines from this vintage offer a lot of volume, with a good capacity to face the passing of time, with roundness and spectacular tannins. A harvest reminiscent of those of the late 80s and early 90s.
The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn. The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time. The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Sight Crimson red colour with violet rim. Clean and bright. Nose On the nose it is profound and intense with a presence of fruit notes (red fruit) accompanied with herbaceous notes and a good ensemble of nuances supported by the aging. Taste On the palate it is elegant, pleasant and enticing. A good acidity that is balanced with a red fruit protagonist. Fresh and clean finish.
Sight Clean and very bright, dark cherry colour with violet reflections. High robe. Nose This wine shows high-intensity nasal aromas among which the intense notes of ripe red fruit stand out together with the toasted aromas, the spicy notes and some light smoked hints. Taste A direct wine with a very good attack and a light and elegant mid palate marked by a good acidity and slightly drying tannins. Some nice toasted hints are also noticed.
Sight Cherry red colour with violet reflections. High robe. Clean and very bright. Nose Camino Romano 2009 has a more fragrant nose tan its previous vintage. Intense red fruits stand out together with toasted and spiced aromas and smoked reminiscences. Taste In the mouth, it is direct and sincere. It has a good acidity which gives way to an agile and elegant mid-palate marked by a good acidity and tannins a bit dry. Long finish of medium-persistence. Pleasant toasted hints at retro-olfaction.
Sight Intense and very bright cherry red colour with violet edges. Medium-high robe and glyceric tears. Nose Its very intense aromas of juicy ripe red and black fruit, in jam are mixed with the notes provided by the oak which are softly perceived, without covering the notes of fruit, but providing them with multiple nuances: hints of sweet spices, mineral touches, some liquorice and good toasted notes. It has a subtle herbal background. Taste Very tasty wine with a very fruity character which fills the mouth from the beginning. It has well integrated toasted hint. Its acidity provides it with a very good freshness. It has some noticeable tannins and a very long finish with good lingering aromas of very fresh fruit. A round, elegant and easy-drinking wine. Very tasty.
