Characteristics of Cachito Mío

Cachito Mío is a red wine from Toro prepared by Vinos y Viñedos de La Casa Maguila. It is a varietal Tinta de Toro.

The grapes undergo a double selection process: in the vineyard and in the winery. The grapes come from old vines over 50 years old and the harvest is manual.

The grapes are de-stemmed and then fermented at a controlled temperature. Gentle pressing then occurs before the passage of wort into American and French oak barrels, where it will remain for about fourteen months.

Finally, Cachito Mío is stabilised slightly before bottling.

The name of this wine refers to a well-known Mexican bolero.

Maguila is located in Zamora and works on the principles of honour, boldness and obsessive passion for wine.

Tasting notes Cachito Mío

This year, which was described as a very good one, started with high temperatures that did not lower until the end of November. There were also quite low water reserves. In the early spring, temperatures began to rise, leading to the first bleedings of the vines. The beginning of the growth cycle did not present any major upheavals, except for the low humidity due to the lack of rain during the winter. During May, the vines began to develop their buds, causing the flowering during the first week of June. When they started to ripen, the drought and the stress on the vines was evident. At the end of August, there a certain amount of rain helped to hydrate the bunches, which helped to collect the healthiest grapes. As a result, we have a year with wines of a concentrated profile and some acidity. Perfect in their youth and with a medium ageing capacity.
The vintage began with a rainy autumn and low temperatures that produced frost for days in a row in December. At the beginning of March, temperatures began to recover and at the beginning of April, the start of the growth cycle was already visible. Due to the persistence of high temperatures, the growth of the vines took place faster, bringing forward the flowering. In June, temperatures dropped but in July they increased significantly, causing the dehydration of some berries. In August and early September the weather evolved normally, until the arrival of the harvest. As a result, we have a year with wines of good body and acidity. Fluid wines in their youth and with a good ageing capacity.
Sight Nice cherry colour with violet hues. Nose Intense and persistent fruit aromas of blackberry, strawberry, blueberry and banana. Light floral aromas of violet. Taste It is balanced and enveloping. Very fresh and long. An aftertaste with aromatic sensations.
Sight Picota cherry colour with violet reflections. Nose On the nose it has a high intensity, clean and fragrant. There are plums, blackberries and blueberries with floral notes like violets. There are pleasant spicy, mild pepper and toasted notes. Taste On the palate it is fresh, balanced, tasty, intense, sweet with a good acidity that is well integrated. Easy to drink. Pleasant and complex passage on the palate.
Sight Beautiful and intense dark cherry colour with violet reflections. Bright wine with a high robe. Nose Highly intense, clean and fragrant nose. It is dominated by intense notes of prunes, blackberries and blueberries. As it opens up, the wine gains in intensity and flower nuances (violets) are released along with nice spicy notes (pepper) and light toasted hints provided during its short stay of five months in American oak barrels. Taste In the palate, it is a fresh, balanced, tasty, intense and mellow wine. It has good, very well integrated activity, which invites to swallow and leaves a soft tannic sensation.  Very pleasant, easy-drinking red wine.  Absolutely recommendable.

Designation of Origin D.O. Toro

Winery Casa Maguila

In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
