Characteristics of Bracamonte Crianza

Bracamonte Crianza is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero produced by the Bracamonte winery. This wine is made exclusively with the Tinta del País variety, the name given to the Tempranillo grape in the region.

The grapes used for Bracamonte Crianza are grown on vines between 35 and 40 years old. The harvest is carried out manually. The grapes undergo a selection process at both the vineyard and the wineries facilities. Once selected, the grapes are destemmed before undergoing alcoholic fermentation in cement coated tanks at a controlled temperature of 28ºC.

The must undergoes several daily pumpings, with the aim of obtaining the optimum colour and extraction. Malolactic fermentation is then carried out before the wine is decanted to oak barrels for the ageing process. The wine is then aged for one year in these barrels. Following this, the wine is decanted to tanks to be clarified and stabilised and is finally affined for one year in the bottle before being placed onto the market.

The Bracamonte winery was founded in 1986 and was later acquired by the Yllera group. With over 30 years of experience, the company is currently experiencing a period of expansion, and it is an evolution the world of wine will follow closely.

Tasting notes Bracamonte Crianza

After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
After a predictable winter, the weather changed in spring. Temperatures were higher than normal, which caused an early start of the grapes’ ripening cycle. The normal course of the climate at the end of spring and at the beginning of the summer, allowed the vines to recover their usual pace, and the veraison took place on the expected dates. The beginning of the harvest was slightly early due to the strong heat the grapes suffered during their ripening. However, the nice weather throughout the harvest, without rain or frost, provided grapes with an impeccable health. Wines from the 2011 vintage have a slightly higher alcohol strength than usual, with a perfect balance thanks to their natural acidity, concentration of colour and phenolic richness. For all these reasons, this vintage has been classified as excellent, offering high-quality young wines, and wines with the ideal features for their ageing.
