Characteristics of Bosque de Matasnos Edición Limitada
Bosque de Matasnos Edición Limitada is red wine from D.O. Ribera del Duero, an area where the 2010 vintage was classed as "Excellent".
The winery is responsible for the creation of the wine Bosque de Matasnos. Jaime Postigo, the general director of the winery, supervises everything and each step of the wine making process to ensure the wine is a good quality.
This wine is a coupage of Tempranillo (95%) and Merlot (5%) varieties grown on their own vines that are more than 50 years old and planted in loam-sandy-clay soil which is poor in organic matter and situated 950 meters above sea level. The vineyards are located on the boarder of a natural area of vine developing and this is reflected in the extreme climate conditions that have been registered in the area. These climatic problems like the frost are difficult for the ripening of the grapes. The work on these vines is long and delicate in order to obtain optimum ripeness of the grapes and be able to produce a wine of the highest quality.
The fermentation is very long and the temperature is very low. Afterwards, the wine undergoes a cold maceration of the must with its skins and a malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Thoroughness and delicacy play an important role in Bodegas Bosque de Matasnos which is the key to their success in order to produce wine of a high quality. As for the aging, Bosque de Matasnos Edición Limitada spends 12 months aging in new fine grain French (90%) oak and American oak (10%) barrels. At Bodegas Bosque de Matasnos it is very important for the barrels to be new in order to put the wine in the best quality oak.

The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn.
The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time.
The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest.
The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
After a predictable winter, the weather changed in spring. Temperatures were higher than normal, which caused an early start of the grapes’ ripening cycle. The normal course of the climate at the end of spring and at the beginning of the summer, allowed the vines to recover their usual pace, and the veraison took place on the expected dates. The beginning of the harvest was slightly early due to the strong heat the grapes suffered during their ripening. However, the nice weather throughout the harvest, without rain or frost, provided grapes with an impeccable health. Wines from the 2011 vintage have a slightly higher alcohol strength than usual, with a perfect balance thanks to their natural acidity, concentration of colour and phenolic richness. For all these reasons, this vintage has been classified as excellent, offering high-quality young wines, and wines with the ideal features for their ageing.
