Characteristics of Bollinger R.D.
Bollinger R.D. is a champagne made by the Bollinger winery, in Ay, in the heart of the Champagne region.
Since its foundation in 1829 in the Montagne de Reims, Maison Bollinger continues to make and age its champagnes as it has always done, managing to imprint the famous Bollinger identity seal, synonym of quality and prestige, year after year.
Bollinger has 174 hectares of its own vineyards available to produce most of its wines. 85% of these vineyards are classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru, with two outstanding plots with pre-phylloxera vines, Clos Saint-Jacques and Chaudes Terres.
One of the most appreciated unique features of Bollinger are the reserve wines, bottled and aged in a corked magnum and classified by vintages, thus forming one of the largest reserves of this type of wine in the area.
Bollinger RD is a champagne made with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from vineyards that are 88% Grands Crus and the rest Premiers Crus. The soils are clayey-sandy with the presence of limestone.
The grapes are harvested at the optimum moment of ripeness using an exhaustive selection process, and are then fermented exclusively in oak barrels for over 5 years. The wine is aged in corked bottles for at least 8 years. It is a champagne with 3 grams of sugar per litre - an Extra Brut. The acronym RD means "recently disgorged" and the date of disgorgement is on the back-label.
Bollinger RD is a mature, complex and delicate champagne. The nose has a distinguished aroma of candied white fruit, with floral notes and those of fresh pastries. The palate entry is elegant, with a silky texture and a fine bubble. It is the most distinguished champagne of the Maison Bollinger and is only produced in those vintages in which the quality of the grapes is exceptional. Great storage capacity.
The Champagne is the northernmost and one of the most important wine regions of France, since it produces the sparkling wine of the same name (white or pink), prepared by the traditional method in the region. This village is situated about 200 km from Paris, are 34,000 hectares, of whom 31,000 are cultivated. Its wines must meet established conditions to qualify for appellation of origin, such as: grapes come from the varieties Pinot noir, pinot meunier and chardonnay make his second fermentation (using the Methode Champenoise), ie the foam has that occur within the same bottle in the second fermentation.
Since its founding in 1829 in the Montagne de Reims, Maison Bollinger continues to develop and raising his champagne as he has always done: the family. His aim is to seal every year the famous Bollinger, played by the "Special Cuvée": a fine champagne with a nose of brioche and a depth that reveals the predominance of pinot noir.
