Characteristics of Blanc d'Orto Brisat
Blanc d’Orto Brisat is a white wine from the D.O Monstant produced by the Orto Vins. This wine is a single variety wine, made using only Garnacha Blanca grapes.
The grapes used for this wine come from 5 different estates owned by the winery: four of which are located in El Masroig, with the fifth situated in Torre de Fontaubella. The vines, which are between 40 and 60 years old, grow on low bush vines at altitudes of between 90-330 metres and are organically cultivated. The vineyards are home to mainly calcareous soils, with abundant amounts of clay and gravel.
The winemaking process begins with the harvested grapes undergoing maceration for 24 hours. Following this, alcoholic fermentation takes place in second and third year barrels of a maximum 500 litres. Blanc d'Orto Brisat then ages for 7 months in its lees. Before being bottled, the wine is lightly filtered in order to eliminate any possible impurities that the wine may contain.
Orto Vins is a young winery, founded in 2008, and is situated in the town of El Masroig. Founded and lead by four partners who have decades of experience in the world of wine. One of the founders, Joan Asens, not only has collaborated with Álvaro Palacios, but is also currently working with Alfredo Arribas on his latest project. The aim of the project is the produce wines that express the character of the terroir using grape varieties native to the area.
The DO Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, The DO Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
