Characteristics of Berola

Berola is a red wine from D.O. Campos de Borja produced by the winery Borsao.

This winery is located in the town of Borja (Zaragoza) which has been fundamental for the development of D.O. Campos de Borja.

Berola is made from Grenache (80%) and Syrah (20%). The grapes come from old Grenache vineyards that are between 35 and 60 years old and Syrah , which is 10 years old. Both varieties are grown at 600-700 metres of altitude on clayey-calcareous and silty soils.

In its production, a 3-4 day maceration is carried out first. Then, each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature of 22-26ºC.

After the vinification, Berola is aged for 14 months in French and American oak Bordeaux barrels.

We recommend decanting an hour before consumption.

Tasting notes Berola

Sight Pretty and intense dark picota cherry colour with violet reflections. Clean and bright. Medium-high robe. Elegant, dark tears stain the glass. Nose

Intense, complex, concentrated and well defined nose. Ripe red and black fruits, alcoholic at times, mix with with pleasant toasted touches at first. Once oxygenated, these aromas mix with intense smoky, roasted notes of coffee, liquorice and cocoa. Nice mineral nuances in the background with intense balsamic notes.

Taste After a broad and pleasant attack, this wine is tasty, warming and dense, with a velvety texture and a high concentration of fruit. The tannins are smooth and ripe and there is an excellent acidity giving the wine a great freshness, very well balanced. Long and very persistent finish with intense fruity aromas. A very tasty red wine. Enjoy!

Sight Clean and bright, intense dark cherry colour with a medium-high robe and elegant slow-falling creamy tears that stain the glass. Nose On first nosing, the sweet aromas of ripe black fruit, with a certain touch of liquorice, take centre stage along with its abundant notes of cherries and glacé cherries. Initially, these aromas are released along with notes of vanilla and a touch of spices. When it opens up, they are mixed with intense toasted and smoked aromas and a creamy, tasty touch of mocha and cocoa. Elegant mineral background with elegant balsamic touches. A very aromatic Borsao wine with a delicious complexity. Taste Very tasty and nice wine, with a wide attack. It has a long, very tasty and dense mid palate with a velvety texture. Very creamy wine with notes of fruit that dominates the mouth, wrapped in chocolate and toasted aromas. It has soft tannins and a good acidity that gives a very good freshness to the wine. All these sensations are very well integrated. It has a long finish with a great persistence with final sweet and very pleasant fruity sensations. A very tasty and enjoyable wine.

Designation of Origin D.O. Campo de Borja

Winery Borsao

For many years, Aragonese wines were used to strengthen weaker wines, both in Spain and abroad. However, in the past few years Araongese wines have managed to dramatically change this stereotype and their reputation in general. The D.O Somontano region lead this revolution during the 90´s with the cultivation of foreign varieties, but now other wine regions, such as the DO Campo de Borja, have discovered the extraordinary possibilities of one of its native varieties: Grenache, one of the most prominent varieties in Spain. It is not in vain that the DO Campo de Borja is considered "the queen of Grenache".

Imágenes y situación D.O. Campo de Borja

In a relatively short time, Bodegas Borsao has gone from being one of the examples of the wine growing stagnation of some Aragonese cooperatives, to being among the best examples of a company with an intelligent renovation. Although Bodegas Borsao, founded in 1958, is still a cooperative with more than 400 members who cultivate and control more than 1,500 hectares of vineyard, the new wines not only brought a breath of fresh air to Campo de Borja, but they also meant a new beginning for many other Aragonese wines: modernity.
