Characteristics of Bernat Oller Merlot
Bernat Oller Merlot is a red wine from Pla del Bages, produced by the Oller del Mas winery, which is located in a renovated medieval castle from the tenth century. The Margenta family are the heiress and curator of the Oller family history.
In this area, the climate is continental and Mediterranean, characterized by low rainfall and strong thermal oscillation. This wine is a blend of Merlot (90%) and black Picapoll (10%), a native variety of the Bages area. The grapes come from different plots on the Oller del Mas estate, which is over 400 hectares. The vineyards are planted on clay soils containing little organic matter, situated at 240 metres above sea level. As for production, fermentation takes place over an 8 day period at a controlled temperature of 22 ° C. Subsequently, maceration takes place for 13 days. Maturing then takes place in French oak barrels from Allier, Nevers and Trançais for 12 months and before resting in the bottle for at least 12 months.
