Characteristics of Barco del Corneta Casio
Barco del Corneta Casio is a white wine produced by the winery Barco del Corneta in La Seca, V.T. Castilla y León.
In 2008, Beatriz Herranz returns to La Seca, Valladolid, to start her new project at the family vineyards and recover the essence of Verdejo.
She cultivates all her vines following the standards of organic agriculture, respecting the variety, the soils and the climate. These vineyards are located in the natural site Paraje de Cantarranas, La Seca. Its soils are sandy, with a lot of boulders, and they are clayey and limestone-based in deeper strata. Climate is continental, with cold and dry winters.
Barco del Corneta Casio is part of the recovery project that Beatriz is carrying out alongside local wine growers with the local varieties of the area. Casio is born from a Verdejo vineyard which was recovered in 2013. This vineyard has 150-year-old vines, they grow on soils comprised by sand and lome, and they are located in the region of Tierra de Pinares (Valladolid) at 770 metres of altitude.
Grapes are manually harvested and placed in 15 kg boxes. They ferment in 300 and 500 litre oak barrels with local yeasts and they are left to mature for 12 months. After this, they are left in stainless steel tanks for 5 months.
Barco del Corneta Casio is a complex, mature wine with volume. It stands out for the integration of wood, which gives its structure without hiding the varietal notes of the genuine Verdejo.
