Characteristics of Azpillaga Urarte Viña El Pago Blanco
Azpillaga Urarte Viña el Pago Blanco is a white wine produced in the Rioja Alavesa by Azpillaga Urarte in Lanciego, Álava.
Azpillaga Urarte is a family-run winery that has regenerated itself. In 1989 they rebuilt the family winery located in Lanciego. When Eduardo took over the winery in 2001, they began to disregard the use of herbicides and, little by little, they submerged themselves in what is known as regenerative agriculture. They own 12 hectares that are distributed amongst the towns of Lanciego, Elvillar and Kripan.
Azpillaga Urarte Viña el Pago Blanco comes from White Grenache vines planted in the vicinity of Lanciego. It is produced with the classic carbonic maceration method, where it is in contact with the skins for a certain time.
As a result, we have a white wine with prevailing white fruit aroma, with good volume on the palate, and an acidity and saltiness that make it irresistible.

Tasting notes Azpillaga Urarte Viña El Pago Blanco
Azpillaga Urarte Viña El Pago Blanco 2016 is a creamy white wine with aromas of ripe stone fruit, notes of nuts and touches of sweet spices. On the palate it is fresh, voluminous and warm. It has a freshness underpinned by a medium acidity and somewhat dry tannins.
After a winter with normal temperatures and rainfall for D.O.Ca Rioja, high temperatures in spring and summer market his year, as well as the absence of rain at the most dangerous times for the vineyard. These factors led to very healthy vines, but the harvest was brought forward three weeks on average. As a result, this year was rated as a very good one in the area, with the only drawback of not reaching full ripeness. Therefore, the wines from this vintage are those typical from Rioja, with a slightly higher alcoholic strength and a good balance between acidity and ripening.
Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
