Avancia Cuvée Mosteiro is a red wine from the D.O. Valdeorras produced by Bodegas Avanthia, which is part of the Grupo Jorge Ordoñez.
This wine is made using only the Mencía (100%) grape variety. The grapes used are grown on low bush vines on soils composed mainly of metamorphic slate and quartz. The vineyards are located in the southern part of the hills, next to El Barco de Valdeorras (Ourense), and are situated at about 550 meters above sea level.
The area is home to an Atlantic climate which is moderated by the high altitude and the steep slopes that the vineyards grow on.
That harvest is carried out using small baskets to avoid damaging the grapes on their way to the winery. Once they have arrived at the winery, the grapes pass through a selection table where only the most healthy and ripe grapes are selected. The grapes are then pressed by hand before undergoing malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels.
Avancia Cuvée Mosteiro is then finally aged for 12 months in french oak barrels and bottled without being filtered.
