Characteristics of Atalaya
La Atalaya is a red wine from the Almansa Region. It is produced by the Atalaya winery, which belongs to the group Orowines by Jorge Ordoñez.
La Atalaya is produced using two types of grapes: Garnacha Tintorera, a grape which is native to the area; and Monastrell. The grapes come from vineyards planeted between 700-1000 metres above sea level on soil composed of sands and limestone.
As for the processing, the wine then undergoes a maceration-fermentation in stainless-steel tanks for 20 days at controlled temperaturas of 25ºC.
After this, the wine then ages in french oak barrels for 12 months.

La Atalaya del Camino 2015 is a concentrated and juicy wine. They try to extract all the potential of the Red Grenache, leaving the grapes to ripen until the optimal harvest time. This great vintage in the area has resulted in wine with good balance between the complex and powerful aromas typical of the Mediterranean, such as olive oil, and its tastiness.

In the foreground the wooden and elegant toasted notes dominate on the aromas of red fruits and ripe berries. When it opens up, the fruit gains in expressivity and intensity, accompanied by mild spices, subtle herbs and hints of flowers.
TasteIntense, sweet and fresh. It has a good silky, fleshy, dry and very tasty mid palate, plenty of fruit and elegant wooden notes in the foreground. It shows a very good acidity and lively and pleasant tannin. Its long and lingering finish leaves very pleasant sensations full of fruit and vegetables.

The DO. Almansa region is located between the lands of Levant and the La Mancha plains and is known for their cultivation of two robust grape varieties: Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera. Taking advantage of intense cold winters, a reasoned vintage and modern technology has resulted in wines with finesse and nuances very different to the hardy, concentrated, high alcohol and bulk produced wines that the region was formally known for.
Bodegas Atalaya is a new project by Gil Family Estates, also in collaboration with the López family from Pilar de la Horadada. The winery is located in D.O.P. Almansa, east of the province of Albacete, between the plateau and the Mediterranean Sea. The first harvest of Bodegas Atalaya took place in 2007. Since then, they have progressed firmly to improve the facilities and do research on the production with the varieties Garnacha Tintorera (Red Grenache) and Monastrell.
