Characteristics of Artillero
Artillero is a red wine from the D.O.C La Rioja produced by Oxer Bastergieta in Laguardia, Alava.
Oxer Bastegieta is a winemaker who began to produce Chacoli at the family winery in Kortezubi, a small Basque town close to the Urdaibai natural park. He first moved to Rioja to study a masters in oenology and viticulture, where he fell in love with the landscapes of the Rioja Alavesa. He then set up residence in Laguardia in 2009 where he began to to inspect the vineyards and began to produce wines from the zone.
Artillero is one of his wines to come from a single plot of vineyard. The plot used is situated in Elvillar de Álava, is 95 years old and planted with the Tempranillo variety. The viticulture is carried out in an organic manner, while only the best bunches are selected after a precise selection process.
The vinification process begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then decanted into French oak barrels where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then aged for 14 months.
Artillero is a complex and corpulent red wine where the fruit combines perfectly with its time in the barrel, and it offers a great potential for keeping.
