Characteristics of Artadi Viñas de Gaín
Viñas de Gaín is a red wine from the D.O. Rioja made of 100% Tempranillo grapes from over-25-year-old vines. These vines are grown on a highest altitude than the rest (600 m.), hence the name Gaín, which means altitude. This wine has been aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

SightRuby red colour with maroon egdes. Intense, clean and bright wine with good, dense tears.NoseQuite deep and clean nasal aromas with a high intensity. The nose is dominated by the spicy aromas, the earthy and vegetables notes and some toasted hints followed by light notes of ripe red fruit. Some balsamic and menthol notes provide this wine with complexity.TasteGood and warm attack followed by a brisk and lively mid palate with a good balance between acidity, tannins and fruity aromas. This is a silky, medium-bodied wine with a long lingering finish. Its nice fruity sensations are well balanced with the complexity provided by the ageing. A great round red wine.
Bodegas Artadi was founded in Laguardia back in 1985 as the´Cooperative Cosecheros Alaveses’', led by Juan Carlos Lopez de Lacalle. It was an association of a group of growers that wanted to collaborate on a business project based on the viticultural wealth of the La Rioja Alavesa region. They wanted the opportunity to prove that the use of carbonic maceration could also produce great wines, and this they did. Artadi has a history linked to the memory and stories of the people who helped found the winery and make what it is today. Outside of the busy and overcrowded industry , Artadi is based on passion and respect for the land and vineyards.
