Arnau Oller is a red wine from D.O. Pla del Bages, produced by the winery Oller del Mas in the municipality of Manresa (Barcelona).
Oller del Mas is a winery located in a restored medieval castle from the 10th century. The Margenat family is the heir and curator of the history of the Oller family.
The farm of Oller del Mas has 600 hectares, 60 of which are certified as organic vineyard, cultivated without any chemical synthesis products and using organic fertilisers. It is also the first winery in Catalonia and the third in the world to have the the lowest carbon emissions (0.7 grams per litre).
The soils that we find at Oller del Mas are quite diverse. However, the loamy-clayey soils and the calcareous ones stand out. The climate in this area is strictly Mediterranean-continental, characterised by scarce rainfall and a strong variation in temperatures.
Arnau Oller is a wine made from Merlot and Picapoll Negre from the farm La Boïga. This vineyard is over 25 years old. It is located at 220 metres of altitude on loamy-calcareous soils.
The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 15-kg boxes. When they arrive at the winery, they are fermented at a controlled temperature of 22°C for 10 days, with a maceration of 15 to 30 days with 2 pump-overs per day. Only the flor must (the first must) is used, and it is not pressed. This wine is aged in 500-litre barrels made of French oak from Allier for 12 months. The wine rests in the bottle for a minimum of 12 months before it is launched on the market.
Arnau Oller is a mature, powerful and structured wine. It stands out for its balance between the aromas of ripe black fruit and its spicy and balsamic notes. In the mouth, it is robust but elegant.
