Characteristics of Aquilón
Aquilón is a red wine from the Campo de Borja D.O region, produced by the Alto Moncayo winery. This wine is made using solely Garnacha (100%) grapes.
The grapes used to make Aquilón from 30 hectares of vineyards growing on soil that is stony and poor in organic matter. This results in little production in grapes, however the quality is extremely high.
The Garnacha grapes used to make Aquilón come from vines which are aged between 60-100 years old. These vineyards are found on the slopes of Moncayo Massif.
The process of vinification and production follows traditional methods. In order to allow the character of the Garnacha grapes to flourish, Aquilón ages for 24 months in the wineries best oak barrels.
This wine is made under the technical direction of renowned Australian winemaker Chris Ringland, with the project being promoted by Jorge Ordóñez.

Lots of ripe fruit and toasty aromas accompanied by high quality notes of oak with a superb minerality and good notes of coffee and toffee. Subtle hints of spicy, along with a touch of balsamic, which round this wine.
TasteAquilon is an explosion in the mouth. Very large and powerful. Fleshy, sweet and silky mid palate, with a great concentration of flavours. It is fresh and has a good acidity that results in a balanced wine. Fine and very sweet tannins. Very persistent and very long finish.

Winery Alto Moncayo
For many years, Aragonese wines were used to strengthen weaker wines, both in Spain and abroad. However, in the past few years Araongese wines have managed to dramatically change this stereotype and their reputation in general. The D.O Somontano region lead this revolution during the 90´s with the cultivation of foreign varieties, but now other wine regions, such as the DOCampo de Borja, have discovered the extraordinary possibilities of one of its native varieties: Grenache, one of the most prominent varieties in Spain. It is not in vain that the DO Campo de Borja is considered "the queen of Grenache".
Bodegas Alto Moncayo is situated in the Appellation of Origin Campo de Borja, was established in 2002 with the participation of Jorge Ordonez, recognized importer of Spanish wines in United States, Bodegas Borsao, and several domestic and foreign partners.
