Characteristics of Anna de Codorniu Brut Nature

Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature is a cava produced by the Codorníu winery, made mostly with the Chardonnay variety and without the addition of sugars.

Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature is one of the flagship products of this winery located in the Penedès region and arose as a tribute to the last heiress who bore the surname Codorníu. A winery that has over 500 years of history devoted to producing cavas and wines, and that currently owns more than 3,000 hectares of vineyards.

Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature is the first cava that came onto the market with Chardonnay in its blend - a white variety that is internationally recognised for its champagnes and noted for its good level of acidity, freshness and floral aromas. Thanks to the introduction of this variety, which is French in origin, together with the traditional varieties with which cava is made: Parellada, Xarel·lo and Macabeo, a versatile, delicate product is obtained, with pleasant fruity aromas.

Once the grapes for Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature are ripe they are harvested at night with the aim of maintaining the intrinsic properties of the fruit and avoiding oxidation and fermentation processes. After de-stemming and pressing, the yeasts are added to the must to ferment, the blending is performed, the wine is bottled with the tirage liqueur and stored in the cava at a constant temperature of 17ºC. There it will undergo a second fermentation with an ageing period of 12 months. After this time, the sediments deposited are removed by riddling and disgorging. Liqueur d’expedition is then added and the bottle is capped with a cork stopper.

Anna de Codorníu Brut Nature is a balanced, lively and very feminine cava. Served at a temperature of between 5 and 8ºC you will enjoy the freshness of the variety without losing the creaminess of the ageing.

    Winery Codorniu

    Cava was born under the constant shadow of its French counterpart, Champagne. However, produced over 1,200km away and a gap of over 100 years, Cava was always going to be a completely different product, even if produced using the same method and and sometimes with the same varieties. Firstly the climate and soil have a profound impact on the yields, while the plant strains that thrive here and completely different to those in the Champagne region. Fortunately, as more winemakers are becoming convinced of this, they are producing Cavas with their own personality, showing off the art of the second fermentation in the bottle like no other wine region in the world.

    The origins of the company date back to the sixteenth century, when the family Codorniu (through Jaume Codorniu) held several presses and barrels. In 1659 the marriage occurs between Anna Codorniu, the last person in the family to bear the name, and Miquel Raventos, whose surname became part of the heirs of grupo.Al like other companies, with the drop in wine production the nineteenth century reoriented their production Codorniu cava. In 1872 Josep Raventos i Fatjó, after a trip to Champagne, begins producing the first bottles of champagne through a traditional method. At the end of the century is projected the construction of the new winery Codorniu (completed in 1915 designed by Puig i Cadafalch), begin exports to other countries such as Cuba and Argentina, and in 1897 gets to be one of the providers of the Royal House Spanish. In 1976 his winery was recognized as a National Historic-Artistic Monument. During the twentieth century the company managed to emerge as one of the leading brands of sparkling Spanish state.
