Characteristics of Amaya Arzuaga Colección

Amaya Arzuaga Colección is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero born from the collaboration between a father and his daughter.
Don Florentino Arzuaga, owner of Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, brings a wealth of experience to the winemaking process, while his daughter, prominent fashion designer Amaya Arzuaga, gives a creative and stylistic touch to the bottle itself.
Amaya Arzuaga Colección is a single varietal Tinto Fino from old vines farmed in two separate estates: the first, with clayey soil containing sand and pebbles; and the second with limestone, providing deep minerality to the wine.

The harvest takes place manually with 15-kg boxes. The grapes pass through a selection process before being barrelled, and are mashed daily before fermentation, which lasts 14 days and includes batonage.
Amaya Arzuaga Colección is aged for approximately 20 months in French barrels of different origins, with prolonged and deep drying and toasting at low temperatures.

Tasting notes Amaya Arzuaga Colección

After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
Amaya Arzuaga Colección 2011 is a mature, intense and structured red wine. An excellent vintage that translates into this wine with a balance between ripeness and freshness, revealing elegant toasted notes on the nose, with aromas of ripe red fruit and a delicate spicy base note. On the palate it is silky, with a broad mouthfeel and a very lingering finish.
2010 started with heavy frosts in winter and spring, causing a delay in the commencement of the growth cycle. Above all, this situation marked the vintage with a low yield harvest. This delay of the growth cycle was offset by a slightly mild but good ripening. This fact resulted in wines with greater structure, floral wines with very ripe fruit in compote, a little less acid than the 2009 vintage, but with an excellent quality and with a long life ahead. The low production and the excellent ripening helped classify this vintage as excellent.
Sight Dark red colour with brilliant ruby reflections. Nose Floral aroma that gives way to hints of dry roses. Fine notes of the crianza. Taste A very fine and elegant wine. Lively attack that results in a great and balanced sensation.

Imágenes y situación D.O. Ribera del Duero

As in all European countries, many Spanish wines owe their reputation to the efforts of some traditional families and some large companies that have kept two basic requirements: quality and personality. These family companies have managed to gather their own heritage that allows them to produce wines "at home", with all the control guarantees. This is the case of this laudable winery, Arzuaga Navarro. Since its early days, at the beginning of the 90s, harvest after harvest they have produced wines with the seal of the house, and with the unequalled style of Ribera del Duero.
