Characteristics of Alvear PX Solera 1927
Alvear PX Solera 1927 is a sweet wine from the Montilla-Moriles region produced by the Alvear winery. This wine is made using only Pedro Ximénez grapes, the most common grape of the region.
The grapes used to make Alvear PX Solera 1927 grow on calcareous soils, which have a low productivity and are poor in organic matter. These features give the fruit a unique expressiveness and aromatic power. The Pedro Ximénez grape is native to the Rhine, in Germany, but has adapted perfectly to its new Andalusian homeland.
The grapes are harvested when have reached their optimum degree of maturity. At this point they are spread out on mats to dry in the sun until they become raisins. The raisins are then pressed, to deliver an intensely rich must.
Following the steps of winemaking, Alvear Solera PX 1927 is aged American oak barrels five years. During this period the solera system is used, a process for aging liquids. This prevents fermentation and loss of sweetness. The “Solera System” for this wine was started in 1927.

Alvear is a historic cordobense vineyard, dating back to 1729. It specialises in producing wines using Pedro Ximénez grapes. Its work has resulted in Alvear becoming one on the most renowned spanish vineyards on the world stage.
