Characteristics of Altos de Torona
Altos de Torona is a white wine produced by the Altos de Torona winery, l in the Rias Baixas. The winery is located in Tomiño (Pontevedra).
Altos de Torona is made from the 3 varieties of grape, Albariño (85%), Caíño (10%) and Loureira (5%). The grapes come from vineyards which are situated between 200 and 350m above sea level, on granitic and sandy soils.
For processing the grapes are squeezed, the stems are removed and they are macerated cold. Then the juice ferments at controlled temperatures.
Finally, Altos de Torona passes a brief aging period of 4 months on its lees.
Altos de Torona 2017 is a profiled, fresh and pleasant white wine. In this vintage, the aromas of ripe white fruit stand out, with citrus and a small touch of floral notes. In the mouth, it is unctuous, quite easy to drink and with a dry and long finish.
Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.
