Characteristics of Altos de Torona
Altos de Torona is a white wine produced by the Altos de Torona winery, l in the Rias Baixas. The winery is located in Tomiño (Pontevedra).
Altos de Torona is made from the 3 varieties of grape, Albariño (85%), Caíño (10%) and Loureira (5%). The grapes come from vineyards which are situated between 200 and 350m above sea level, on granitic and sandy soils.
For processing the grapes are squeezed, the stems are removed and they are macerated cold. Then the juice ferments at controlled temperatures.
Finally, Altos de Torono passes a brief aging period of 4 months on its lees.
The Albariño grape is a spanish white variety with a strong floral and terpene character, ideal for producing not only young fresh and aromatic whites, but also (barrel) aged wines. Initially the DO. Rías Baixes was only seen as a region of great hope for Spanish whites, but it has managed to turn this hope into reality.
