Characteristics of Albret La Vina de mi Madre
Albret La Viña de mi Madre is a red wine produced by the winery Finca Albret in Villafranca, D.O. Navarra.
The winery Finca Albret was founded in 2002. With its name it intends to pay tribute to the last king of Navarra, Juan de Albret.
Finca Albret has over 200 hectares of vineyards located in an area between mountains, with a climate that is ideal for the development of the vines. This, along with a meticulous selection of grapes from the small plots, allows them to obtain the best grapes to make a range of wines that convey all the character of the terroir with elegance and complexity.
Right now, Finca Albret, along with Rioja Vega and other wineries, belongs to Grupo Príncipe de Viana.
Albret La Viña de mi Madre is a red wine made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from a single 3-hectare vineyard owned by the mother of the winery’s oenologist.
The harvest takes place by hand and at night to preserve all the features of the grapes. When the grapes arrive at the winery, they go through a pre-fermentation maceration for 24 days at 8ºC. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel deposits with selected yeasts. When the fermentation has ended, it is goes through a post-fermentation maceration and it is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels. Before it is launched on the market, it is left to stand in the bottle for 30 months.
Albret La Viña de mi Madre is a mature, concentrated and elegant wine. The aromas of very ripe black fruit stand out, as well as the notes of the ageing like pipe tobacco and vanilla. In the mouth, it is very expressive, showing all its personality with elegance. It is the winery's treasure.
Some wine regions have to bear the weight of their own prestige and fame, and this is certainly the case for Navarra. For many years, the white and reds produced in this region came second to the rosés produced here with the noble Grenacha variety. However, the last two decades have seen ongoing changes in the wine-making sector in Navarra, changes which have completely transformed the styles of wine produced and have been consistently worthwhile, resulting in some of the white and red wines produced in Navarra being ranked among best rated in Spain.
