Characteristics of Albet i Noya Lignum Negre

The grapes of this red wine come from the high lands of the region of Penedès and from the selection of extremely old and organically-grown vines of Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine can be tasted currently, but it will surely evolve positively for the next years kept at 10-15ºC.

Albet i Noya Lignum Negre 2015 is a red wine with structure, meaty and elegant. In this vintage, the aromas of ripe red fruit stand out, with toasted and slightly balsamic notes. In the mouth, it is silky, expressive and very long.
Sight Deep cherry colour with maroon edges. Clean and bright. Nose Its notes of ripe fruit are released along with herbal aromas and spices such as vanilla and cocoa. Elegant balsamic background. Taste Wine with good attack and a silky and fruity mid palate. Integrated tannins and balanced acidity. Good finish which leaves a good balsamic aftertaste.

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.

Albet i Noya was, among other things, the first national winery to make organic wines. In 1978, Josep Maria Albet i Noya represented the Unió de Pagesos in the Regulatory Council of D.O. Penedès, when a Danish company addressed the D.O. looking for a producer of organic wine. At the time, there were no organic producers in the entire state, and the Council discussed the issue with Josep Maria, a strict vegetarian. From then and until this day, his wines are the paradigm of the strictest organic production and, undoubtedly, one of the most exciting innovations of Penedès. It has positioned itself on the market, with boutique wines made in a modern way, with a characteristic and personal Mediterranean style.
