Characteristics of Albet i Noya Curiosa Pinot Noir
Albet i Noya Merlot-Pinot Noir Clàssic is a rose wine from Penedès produced by Albet i Noya, a winery founded in 1979 which pioneered organic wine production in Spain.
The climate in the Penedes is warm and soft, Mediterranean in nature, characterized by record long hot summers and cold, dry winters. This wine is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Pinot Noir (30%) from 3.4 hectares of vineyards of Merlot and 1 hectare of Pinot Noir. The vineyards are over 10 years old and are planted on soils poor in organic matter with a high clay, sand and limestone content. As for the process, maceration is performed for 24 hours with the skins after stripping. Subsequently, fermentation and aging for 5 months in vats is completed. After maturing, the wine proceeds to a light filtration and cold stabilization before bottling. Albet i Noya Merlot-Pinot Noir Clàssic is an ecological rose wine that can be enjoyed over 12 months as it gains complexity, reliability and minerality.

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
Whilst the origins of viticulture at Can Vendrell go back to the middle ages, it was not until 1903 that the Albet family established itself at the estate. Joan Albet i Rovirosa came to Can Vendrell to oversee the replanting of the estate after the Phylloxera plague. This process involved planting American rootstock and grafting the desired variety onto that rootstock.
