Characteristics of 4 Monos Cariñena
4 Monos Cariñena is a red wine from Vinos de Madrid produced by the 4 Monos Viticultores. As the name suggests, this wine is made using only the Cariñena grape variety.
The grapes used are taken from the Arroyo Tórtolas P estate, which lies 700 metres above sea level. The vines are 25 years old and are planted on trellises over granite and sandy soils. The harvest is carried out manually and the grapes are selected by hand.
The grapes are then cold macerated before undergoing alcoholic fermentation with the stems still intact using native yeasts, this process lasts roughly 40 days. Before being bottled and placed onto the market, this wine is aged in 300L French oak barrels. Only 400 bottles of this wine is produced, so don´t wait around!
4 Monos Viticultores is a project founded by 4 friends. 4 locals who decided to produce their own wine, taking advantage of the land of the Sierra de Gredos, aware of the importance of having a good vineyard in order to produce quality wines. They released their first vintage in 2010. Their wines are highly acclaimed and obtain major awards year after year.

Although Madrid wines (Vinos de Madrid) are still relatively unknown among consumers, the region has enjoyed a prestige and historical past that dates back to the twelfth century. Current wines in the region however are far from the old wines of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, who in their golden years were perceived as some of the most prestigious wines in Spain. Today, the Vinos of Madrid face a highly competitive wine scene, but the effort local wineries regain this old prestige is evident in the quality of the wines being produced.
