Characteristics of 4 Kilos

4 Kilos is a red wine from Mallorca prepared by the 4 Kilos winery.

4 Kilos, a colloquial way of saying 4,000,000 pesetas, was the initial investment Francesc Grimalt and Sergio Caballero made to start the winery.

A modest investment in the sector which shows that good wine is not much money but has passion and ambition for quality.

4 kilos is a blend of Callet and Manto Negro varieties.

The grapes come from different farms in the south and north of Mallorca on Call Vermell, the name popularly given in Mallorca to the loamy soils.

The vines are aged between 20 and 45 years.

4 Kilos practices a very respectful rational agriculture with the environment and with minimal intervention.

They use a native vegetation cover, with a large microbiological population to obtain a higher concentration in the grapes.

They have a mild Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and little rainfall. After the manual harvest, a selection of the grapes is done.

Fermentation of each plot is carried out separately, in stainless steel and wooden vats of 2500 litres at a temperature of between 20 and 30 ° C.

4 kilos is aged in medium and medium toasted oak barrels of 600 litres from Alier for 14 months. A good wine from Mallorca. Tasty and fruity with some mineral notes.

Tasting notes 4 Kilos

Sight An intense picota cherry colour with a violet rim. High robe. Fine, slightly tinted tears on the glass. Nose High intensity nose. Nice aromas of ripe black fruit are accompanied by balsamic notes, toasted notes, light floral touches, nuances of undergrowth and mineral aromas. Taste This red wine shows good, bulky attack, and is fleshy and tasty on the palate with a high concentration of fruit, a good acidity and intense but enjoyable tannins. A long and persistent finish with a fruity, smoky aftertaste.

Sight Intense cherry colour with violet edges. Clean and bright. Dense tears which stain the glass. Nose Good intensity. At the beginning, the red and black ripe fruit emerge along with good toasted notes. When it opens up, many nuances round out the wine: licorice, ink, toffee, coffee, menthol, sweet spices, notes of bakery, dry Mediterranean forest... It is definitely a pleasure. Taste

Very nice, large and fresh attack. Soft, silky and meaty mid palate. Very tasty. Sweet and polished tannins. Long and very persistent finish which leaves tasty sensations.

Winery 4 Kilos

These Spanish wines bear the designation of Vinos de la Tierra. They are produced in the island of Mallorca from white grape varieties such as Prensal (moll), Chardonnay, Macabeo, Malvasia, Muscat of Alexandria, Small Grain Muscat, Parellada, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, and red varieties such as Callet, Manto Negro, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fogoneu, Merlot, Monastrell, Syrah, Tempranillo and Pinot noir. 
Nowadays, Mallorcan wines are high quality wines with a recognised personality and unique characteristics, thanks to which it has obtained significant reviews by experts. Through their efforts, the producers in the island keep looking forward to have Mallorca considered as one of the most selected winemaking areas in Spain.
