Dahlia is a white wine from the Penedès region produced by the 1+1=3 winery. This curious name is a reference to the three people who run the winery: Josep Piñol, Carles Esteve and Josep Anton Pinoll. The winery is located in the highest part of the Penedès, in the town of Guardiola (Barcelona).
Dahlia is a unique signature wine. This is the result of the wineries commitment to combine native varieties such as Xarel.lo with other less widely used, or less widely used on a spanish level, varieties such as Viognier, a white grape that orginates from Dalmatia (Croatia).
Dahlia is a blend of Viognier (75%) grapes from the Can Romeu estate and Xaralel.lo (25%) from the Can Llerda estate. The 2 different grape varieties undergo the winemaking process seperately. The Viognier variety are harvested at the beginning of september and ferment at a controlled temperature of 13ºC. The Xarel.lo variety however is harvested at the end of september and after fermentation, part of the must spends 3-4 months in french oak barrells.
NoseThis wine shows a deep and elegant nose. Intense aroma, full of nuances, fresh fruit (mango), with mineral touches of dried apricots and fruit with pit, apricots, peaches and loquats.TasteDense and complex wine with soft and pleasant tropical notes, with an excellent balance, a pleasant freshness, and a long and persistent aftertaste.
Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
1+1=3 (U Més U Fan Tres) started its commercial activity ten years ago, although the founders of this winery were already linked to the world of wine since a long time ago.
Regarding its name 1+1=3, it has its origin in the sum of different synergies: the passion for the well-done work in the vineyards and the wine-making of the oenologist Josep Piñol. Josep Anton Bonell, a lover of this precious fruit given by the region of Penedès, is who coordinates the ageing, the bottling and the preparation of the products, together with Carles Esteve, a prestigious wine-maker from the region of Garraf. Thanks to this, their wines and cavas have become word renowned in USA, Japan, Belgium, Holland, Finland, Italy and also places such as Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore… During this year, these products have been also recognised in Catalonia and other parts of Spain.
The energies transmitted by Carles, Josep and Josep Anton allow the 1+1=3 team to continue working with their customers, who are at the same time, ambassadors of their products.
