About Gutiérrez de la Vega Tío Raimundo

When Felipe Gutiérrez de la Vega and his wife Pilar settled in an old farmhouse in Jávea (Alicante) to revive the ancient family vineyards, they were incredibly fortunate to learn from Uncle Raimundo, a bona fide viticulturist who was managing the estate at the time. This knowledge, which Gutiérrez de la Vega has honed over time, has led to a deep exploration of indigenous grape varieties and transformed the winery into the foremost exponent of dry Muscat and natural sweet wines from the region. Indeed, Felipe Gutiérrez de la Vega was the pioneer in vinifying dry Muscat and advocating for the potential of sweet Muscat to produce high-quality wines. This revolution has established him as the preeminent master of sweet wine.

As evidence of his mastery over the Muscat variety, Gutiérrez de la Vega Tío Raimundo is a white wine that pays homage to his great mentor, made from grapes originating in a small mountain village in Alicante called Parcent, situated 250 meters above sea level. Forty-year-old vines planted on ferruginous clay soils with pebbles are hand-harvested at the peak of ripeness. Subsequently, in the winery, the grapes ferment with their skins for a week using indigenous yeasts in American oak barrels, and upon the development of a flor veil, the wine undergoes biological aging for 18 months.

Thus, Gutiérrez de la Vega Tío Raimundo is not only the culmination of decades of passion and dedication to the noble art of winemaking, but it is also a tribute to the innovation that has turned the winery into a shining beacon in the universe of Mediterranean wines.
