Characteristics Tritón Tinta de Toro

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Varietal red wine made of Tinta de Toro, produced in the framework of the project directed by the oenologist Alistair Gardner. The vineyards are located on very sandy soils at 800 metres over the sea level. The high thermal differences between day and night are the reason for the low yields of these vines. Tritón Tinta de Toro is fermented in stainless steel tanks and goes under a malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. It is aged for one year before being released to the market. A wine with its own personality. An authentic wine from Toro.

With the 2004 vintage, were born the first wines from this winery, located at the end of Almáchar, in the heart of the Axarquia Malaga, a mountainous region of steep slopes and slate soils, along the Mediterranean. This is one of the oldest in Europe vitinícolas. It is the first winery established in this locality, as the traditional destination of these grapes was the production of raisins. Perhaps the newest part of this proposal was trusting the oenological winemaking in the Austrian winemaker Alois Kracher, who was undisputed number one sweet wines in the country.

In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
