Tentenublo Custero is an organic red wine made by the Tentenublo winery in the D.O.Ca. Rioja with the Monastrell, Tempranillo, Malvasía, Garnacha Gris, Garnacha Tinta, Graciano, Viura and Calagraño varieties.

Tentenublo is an interesting wine made by Roberto Oliván and named after the bell ringing that Rioja farmers used to do to drive away the hail clouds as the grapes were ripening. Roberto is a young winegrower with a long family history and he works to recover vineyards in the most undiscovered parts of the denomination. These are vineyards with special soils and an extreme climate, lying over 600 metres above sea level, and used to produce unique, limited production wines.

Tentenublo Custero comes from vines planted on flat areas at the top of the mountain. These vines are between 4 and 7 years old and planted in limestone loam and red sandstone soils. With their extreme weather conditions, the yield is low by extremely concentrated. They are cultivated using 100% organic, environmentally friendly agriculture and no chemical products. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand.

In the winery, the whole clusters of the eight varieties used to make the Tentenublo Custero wine are selected and placed in open vats to undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is then pressed and transferred to 2nd year barrels and concrete tanks, where it will age for around 8 months.

Tentenublo Custero is a more refined version of a traditionally made wine. A new generation Rioja that is fruity and has a very good texture.
