Characteristics Scala Dei Garnatxa

Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Scala Dei Garnatxa is a red wine from Priorat prepared by Cellers Scala Dei. It is a varietal Grenache.

The grapes used come from clay soils and licorella, which is typical of Priorat, they are located at a high altitude.

The result is an expressive and characteristic Priorat wine. Scala Dei Garnatxa is definitely unique.

Cellers Scala Dei is found on the land on which the Carthusian monks worked in the twelfth century.

They chose this location because a local shepherd is said to have one day dreamed of a ladder reaching to heaven in this area, by which the angels ascend and descend. From this, the name Scala Dei was born, which was the first winery to bottle wine under the protection of Priorat.

Scala Dei is the oldest winery of Priorat. It was established by the Carthusian monks in 1163, and until this day it still preserves the same spirit for handcrafted work. The wines of Scala Dei capture the essence of the rough landscape, the intense climate and the old vines. The result is wines with an authentic expression of the “terroir”. The entrance of the group Codorníu Raventós in the company in the middle of 2000, has allowed them to expand and modernize the facilities, and turn the business objective towards the consolidation of red wines. This has led specialized press and competitions to praise them and acknowledge them in recent years.
Pictures and situation Scala Dei
Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
