Prados colección Syrah is a red wine from Campo de Borja prepared by Pagos del Moncayo, a family winery founded in 2006 at the foot of the Sierra del Moncayo, in the heart of the Iberian Range in Aragon. The winery owns more than 7 hectares of vineyards of vines over 80 years of age.

The climate in Campo de Borja is Mediterranean with continental influences, characterized by record long hot summers, cold winter of around 8 ° C and an average annual rainfall of 250 to 400 l/m². Cold northern winds are characteristic of this area.

This wine is a varietal Syrah from the vineyard La Loma de Bisimbre, 5,000 old vines planted on the slope of a small hill, on deep clay soil with gravel and mineral components. Regarding the development, after the manual harvest is completed in boxes of 20 kg, the grapes are de-stemmed and macerated in open vats. Subsequently the grapes are trodden. After the fermentation, the wines are separated from the pomace with a traditional pressing system. Finally, Prados colección Syrah is aged for 10 months in American oak barrels

There is no doubt that the natural conditions of a region are what drive its development as a wine producing area, but the human factor is the one to finally decide if that area is able or not to achieve the recognition of its wines. Campo de Borja is a good example of the great value that the human factor has had in its new development along with its star variety, Red Grenache. And also with the international Syrah in Pagos del Moncayo, which in a few years has served to position the winery as a reference closely linked to the new, more cosmopolitan and modern era of Aragonese wines.
For many years, Aragonese wines were used to strengthen weaker wines, both in Spain and abroad. However, in the past few years Araongese wines have managed to dramatically change this stereotype and their reputation in general. The D.O Somontano region lead this revolution during the 90´s with the cultivation of foreign varieties, but now other wine regions, such as the DO Campo de Borja, have discovered the extraordinary possibilities of one of its native varieties: Grenache, one of the most prominent varieties in Spain. It is not in vain that the DO Campo de Borja is considered "the queen of Grenache".
