Ponte da Boga Capricho de Sousón is a wood-aged red wine made by Ponte da Boga with the native Sousón variety in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra, in Galicia (Spain).

Ponte da Boga is the oldest winery in the Ribeira Sacra. Located in “Terra de Caldelas”, a privileged wine-growing area at the edge of the Sil river, they are dedicated to recovering ancient native varieties to produce delicious, high-end small productions.

Ponte da Boga Capricho de Sousón comes from vines planted on steep terraces with slate soils, lying at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. The estate is difficult to access so all work has to be carried out manually and the yields are very low.

In the winery, the Ponte da Boga Capricho de Sousón grapes are destemmed and crushed to ferment for 10 days with gentle pump-overs and they macerate for 8 to 10 days. Then malolactic fermentation begins and the wine is aged for 10 months in second and third use French oak barrels.

Working to the philosophy of recovering ancient varieties, Ponte da Boga Capricho de Sousón is a truly unique red wine. Made with the ancient Sousón variety, this is a vibrant, powerful single-variety wine with plenty of personality.

Ribeira Sacra is one of those magical places that you just have to visit to truly experience it. The vertiginous terraces rise steep on the banks of the river Sil, making the terrain difficult to work on that it requires complete manual work and labor on the vineyards. The agriculture carried out here is aptly referred to as ‘heroic agriculture’, due to the hard work carried out cultivating the land. Both red and white wines are produced in the Ribeira Sacra. The red wines are mostly made with the Mencía variety, defined by their expressive and elegant character with a good acidity. The Ribeira Sacra white wines are principally made with the Godello and Albariño varieties. They are wines with a good volume in the mouth, aromatic and fruity. The Ribeira Sacra wines are often come in very limited productions, are of high quality and with notable personalities.
