D.O.Ca. Rioja (La Rioja)
Obalo La Encina is a red wine from the D.O. Ca. Rioja produced by the Obalo winery. This wine is made using only the tempranillo grape variety.
The grapes used to make Obalo La Encina come from vineyards grown on terraces near the Sierra Cantabria, planted at an altitude of between 700-1000 metres. The vines themselves are between 45-70 years old. These are grown on 2 hectares of vineyards owned by the winery, plus another 40 overseen by the wineries technical team. The soils on the vineyards are shallow and calcareous. The area is home to a climate that is ideal for cultivating the vines and growing grapes: the winters are cold, while there is a strong contrast of temperature between day and night during the summers.
At the winery, the grapes for Obalo La Encina ferment in stainless steel tanks that have small capacities. The various phases of the winemaking process are carried out using traditional methods, although the grapes undergo these phases independently depending on the plot they were taken from.
Before being bottled, Obalo La Encina is aged for 12 months in french oak barrels that I either one or 3 years old. This wine is perfect to enjoy with hearty dishes.
Obalo is a young winery founded back in 2006. Situated in the municipality of Ábalos, the company is lucky to work with vineyards of such high quality.
