Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny is a port with aromas of dried apricots, crystallised tangerine skin and touches of nuts. The palate is structured and also highlights the aromas of orange peel and lemon, hints of caramel and honey. It reveals dried fruits and has a sweet, spirited and lingering finish.

Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny is a port wine coupage of the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão and Tinta Roriz varieties. It is made by the legendary Portuguese winery Niepoort.

Niepoort is a Portuguese winery that was founded in 1842. It is currently run by Dirk Niepoort, fifth generation of the family it is named after. They use traditional Portuguese techniques such as grape treading, fermentation in cement tanks or aging in pipes, 550-litre port-aging barrels, whilst also using new technologies that ensure the grapes are handled with care. The winery has vines in different locations, some of which are over 100 years old, and an aging cellar in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.

The Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny vines have an average age of over 60 years old. The strains are planted in shale soils and are trained using the Guyot and Cordón de Royat methods. Planting density is between 4,000 and 6,000 plants per hectare and they are harvested by hand to keep the grapes as intact as possible until they reach the winery.

Once in the winery, the Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny ferments in typical presses with traditional treading periodically carried out to extract the maximum colour, aromas and structure of the grapes. Finally, before alcoholic fermentation finishes and there are about 100 grams per litre of sugars left, wine alcohol is added and it ages in the typical 550-litre oak barrels for about 10 years.

Niepoort 10 Years Old Tawny is a complex and pleasant port that perfectly combines aromas, alcohol and sweetness.

This winery has belonged to the Van der Niepoort since 1848, when it was ceded by Eduard Krebe, who founded it six years earlier. Currently, the company is directed by Rolf van der Niepoort and his son, Dirk, the fifth generation. It is one of the most renowned Portuguese wine companies in the world, both for its quality —only 16 vintages classified as Vintage in 60 years— and for the great personality and inimitable style of its wines.
