Characteristics Morra o Conto
Morra o Conto is an Albariño white wine made by Casa Monte Pío in the D.O. Rías Baixas.
Founded in 1979, the Casa Monte Pío family winery is located in Ribadumia (Pontevedra). Run by the winemaker Pablo Martínez, the starting point for creating a good wine is the terroir. Small plots in the typical Albariños subzone Val do Salnés where life-long agricultural techniques are combined with the most innovative methods.
Morra or Conto comes from their own 25-year-old vines planted in sandy and mineral soils and grown using the arbour training system. The area has an Atlantic climate, with an annual average temperature of 15ºC and an abundant rainfall. Once the grape has reached its best condition, a first selection takes place in the vineyard and it is harvested by hand into 15 kg boxes.
A second grape selection takes place in the winery. The grapes are then destemmed, gently pressed and settled using gravity. Morra o Conto ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of between 16 and 18ºC.
Morra o Conto, a name taken from a Galician expression that means “That's it!”, is a white Albariño wine that reflects the native character of a land.

Casa Monte Pío
Casa Monte Pío is a family winery with defined Galician distinguishing marks. Thanks to the Albariño variety, planted in the heart of Valle del Salnés, it’s birthplace. Thanks to the influence of the ocean; in fact, some of the vineyards are literally planted next to the sea. Thanks to the small plots, typical smallholdings (minifundios) of the Galician landscape. Thanks to the way they train the vineyards, aiming to avoid the soil’s moisture.
Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.
