Melior Verdejo is a white wine produced by the winery Bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), D.O.Ribera del Duero.

Bodega Matarromera was created in 1988, when Carlos Moro decided to build his own winery in Valbuena de Duero, in the heart of D.O. Ribera del Duero.

In this same area, called the "golden mile" Bodega Matarromera has more than 200 hectares of their own vineyard, with vines of different ages, mainly cultivating the variety of the region, the Tempranillo or Tinto Fino. They have different farms to make their single-vineyard wines, apart from their classical wines, qualified in the D.O. as Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.

Bodega Matarromera's wine warehouses are semi-buried in the north hillside of the Duero Valley, where more than 2,000 oak barrels rest for the ageing of their wines. They also have state-of-the-art technology, without leaving behind the traditional know-how of the area.

Melior Verdejo is a wine made from Verdejo, from two different farms, located at 750 metres of altitude on loamy-sandy soils.

Once the grapes are harvested, the fermentation begins in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature, 16ºC, for 10 to 14 days. Before the wine is bottled, it is left to rest for 3 months with its fine lees.

Around 30 years ago, many wineries in the Ribera del Duero began to come out from under the shadow of the legendry Spanish winery Vega Sicília. Small, medium and large wineries began producing reds that aroused the passion of experts and international wine critics harvest after harvest. Over time big names and reputations began to forge. One of these was Matarromera, a winery founded back in 1988 in Valbuena de Duero, where there noble reds have been able to deliver year after year.
When we talking about the Rueda wines, we are often referring to their white wines. The white wines produced in this region are often made with the Verdejo variety, the main variety of Rueda, planted along the Douro River and its tributaries. Rueda white wines often offer lots of floral notes, scrubland low, delicate aromas and a great acidity given by strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces red wine, often made with the Tempranillo variety.
