Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine aged on lees made by Viña Ventisquero with the Sauvignon Blanc variety in Atacama, Chile.

Viña Ventisquero is run by Felipe Tosso, an enterprising winemaker who set up his own winery in the Maipo Valley in 2000 to produce wines with a modern style and a unique character. Three years later, he expanded the estate by acquiring land in the Casablanca Valley and the Apalta Valley. In each of these locations, he carefully studies the different types of soils to produce very personal and world-renowned wines.

Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc comes from a vineyard planted in the Atacama desert, 24 km from the sea. These vines are planted in alluvial calcareous soils with clay, sand and calcium carbonate and they are influenced every day by the “camanchaca”, a dense Pacific mist that brings significant humidity to the desert. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested.

In the winery, the Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc grapes are cold macerated for 6 to 8 hours and then the must ferments at a low temperature. Finally the wine is left to rest for 8 months on its lees with gentle bâtonnages before bottling.

Named ‘Kalfa’, which means ‘blue’ in the Mapuche language, Kalfu Sumpai Sauvignon Blanc is a nod to its strong oceanic influence. Fresh, vibrant and salty, this wine has a pure touch of the sea.
