Humus Tosco Tinto is a natural and ecological red wine made on the lees by the Portuguese winery Encosta da Quinta in Lisbon with the Touriga Nacional and Castelão varieties.

Encosta da Quinta is a small family winery located one hour north of the Portuguese capital and about 20 km from the Atlantic. After inheriting the vineyards planted by his father, Rodrigo, an engineer by profession, took on the role of the winery’s winemaker. This is a skill he has taught himself from books, courses and workshops. Following ecological and natural principles, he produces earthy, light and fresh wines using local native varieties like Fernão Pires, Arinto, Castelão and Touriga Nacional.

Humus Tosco Tinto comes from vines that enjoy a fresh microclimate as a result of the Atlantic breeze and high humidity. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture and no pesticides, herbicides or any other chemical products that could harm the natural balance of the strain and the terroir.

When the Humus Tosco Tinto grapes have been manually harvested, they are vinified with minimal intervention in the winery. The grapes are completely destemmed and spontaneous fermentation takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and in contact with the skins for 5 days. It then stays in the same place on its lees for 10 months. It is finally bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphur.

Surprisingly light for a Portuguese wine, Humus Tosco Tinto is the result of combining tradition with experimentation. An abundance of energy and fruitiness.
