Hugel Alsace Riesling Estate is a dry, monovarietal Riesling wine produced by the Hugel & Fils winery in Alsace, France.

Hugel & Fils is a modest-sized century-old Maison that enjoys a worldwide reputation. Virtually all the great restaurants in France have their wines, and it also belongs to the select group of 12 family wine companies from the main wine-producing regions in the world that make up the exclusive PRIMUM FAMILIAE VINI association.

Alsace is the driest wine region in France, far from the marine influence, and protected by the Vosges, and has a privileged microclimate for cultivating Riesling that favours the ripening of the grapes, thus endowing the wine with unparalleled aromas and intensity.

Hugel Alsace Riesling Estate is produced by selecting vines from some of the best plots on the Hugel & Fils family’s estate in Riquewihr, Alsace, where the predominant soils are of marl, a type of sedimentary rock that is composed of calcites and clays that give wines minerality, delicacy and a high ageing capacity.

To produce Hugel Alsace Riesling Estate the grapes are selected and harvested by hand and transported to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any mechanical intervention. After pressing, the must is decanted and then fermented in vats at a controlled temperature. In winter the wine is naturally clarified, and filtered slightly in spring before being bottled. The bottles age in the cellar until they go on sale.

Hugel Alsace Riesling Estate is a gastronomic wine with an extensive ageing potential, and could stand for five to eight more years in the bottle before uncorking.
