Real reviews from customers who have purchased this product

Hugel Alsace Gewürztraminer Estate is a dry single-varietal wine made from Gewürztraminer and produced by the Hugel & Fils winery in Alsace, France.

Hugel & Fils is a century-old winery whose origins date back to the 15th century. It is currently a member of The Henokiens, an international association of family businesses that are more than two hundred years old. Despite its modest size, Hugel & Fils is recognised all over the world. It exports 80% of its production to more than 100 countries, and its wines are in practically all the great restaurants in France.

Most of Hugel & Fils’s plots are located in Riquewihr, an area where the grapes from which this Hugel Alsace Gewürztraminer Estate is produced come from. They are being converted to organic viticulture, and have clay soils that provide a characteristic density to the wines of this extraordinary terroir.

The Hugel & Fils winery picks all the bunches in its vineyards by hand. The grapes are transported to the press in small boxes that enable the fruit to be kept intact so it can later undergo a racking by gravity to leave the must clean of impurities and to ensure that the fermentation takes place in a clean and straightforward way. The must ferments in hundred-year-old vats with a controlled temperature, and then in winter the wine is naturally clarified and filtered gently in spring before being bottled. The production of Hugel Alsace Gewürztraminer Estate, and each bottle of the rest of the wines produced by the estate, is sealed with DIAM corks to avoid the risk of contamination due to the "cork disease". Lastly, after bottling, the wine rests in the cellar until its optimum moment of consumption.

Hugel Alsace Gewürztraminer Estate is a wine of depth and patience with an extensive ageing potential.
