Fonterenza Bianco Le Ragazze

Fonterenza Bianco Le Ragazze is a natural white wine macerated with its skins and produced by the Fontereza winery. The grape varieties vinified are Vermentino, Trebbiano, Malvasia and Grechetto, and it is rated as an IGT Toscana Bianco wine.

Fonterenza is a winery founded in 1997 by two twin sisters, Margherita and Francesca Padovani. The farm currently consists of 4 hectares that are cultivated biodynamically. In the winery they practise the philosophy of minimum intervention, using very little sulphite with the wines and without using oenological products, producing around 25,000 bottles in a very traditional way.

The vineyards for Fonterenza Bianco Le Ragazze are located in Monte Amiata, not far from Montalcino, and belong to a friend of the owners of Fonterenza who doesn’t make wine. They are located at 420-450 metres above sea level, planted in soils with marls, sandstones, quartzites and silts. They are cultivated biodynamically and are harvested by hand to respect the wholeness of the grapes until the moment of their vinification.

When the Fonterenza Bianco Le Ragazze harvest arrives in the winery it is destemmed, pressed gently and fermented in open plastic vats. La Vermentino is vinified separately and macerated with the skins for about a week. The other three varieties will co-ferment and macerate in the vat with the skins for about 14 days. The two wines then rest for a while separately and are then mixed. The coupage ages for 10 months in a 500-litre barrel, and the rest in a 200 litre terracotta amphora. The total production is just over nine hundred bottles.

Fonterenza Bianco Le Ragazze has been produced since 2017. It is a white wine macerated with its skins that is complex and voluminous and with aromas reminiscent of mandarin, white pepper and minerals.
