Characteristics El Valao
Valao is a red wine made with the Mencía variety by the Wines Valtuille winery in the D.O. Bierzo.
Vinos Valtuille is a winery located in the subzone of Valtuille de Abajo (Vilafranca del Bierzo) that started out in 1999. At present, the legacy continues at the hands of two of the sons of the García Alba Family. Effort, respect and care for the land are the three premises they pursue when making their wines.
The grapes for the red wine El Valao are obtained from a small plot of 90-year-old strains with clayey soils and an Atlantic-continental climate. The vineyard is planted at a high density and trained in bush style. The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 15kg boxes.
In the winery, the grapes pass over the selection table and are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of less than 28ºC. Malolactic fermentation is then performed. Lastly, El Valao red wine is aged in used French oak barrels for 6 to 8 months.
Valao is a red wine in which the Mencía variety feels especially fresh and with an integrated oak.

Valao 2016 is a fresh red wine with aromas of flowers, berries, earth and spicy notes. In the mouth it is structured, with nuances of acidic fruit and a long finish.
