De Martino Legado Carmenère is a wood-aged red wine made by De Martino with the Carmenère variety in the Maipo Valley, in Chile’s Central Valley.
The De Martino’s are an Italian family who settled in Isla de Maipo in 1934 with the aim of recovering local native vineyards and discovering the character of its terroirs. They use environmentally friendly and organic work that quickly gained the winery a reputation of being innovative and high-quality. They currently produce wines in the D.O. Maipo, D.O. Casablanca, D.O. Limarí, D.O. Cachapoal, D.O. Maule, D.O. Elqui and D.O. Choapa.
De Martino Legado Carmenère comes from vineyards planted between 1992 and 1998 in the heart of the Maipo Valley. These vines are planted on an alluvial terrace with plenty of gravel and clay. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture with organic products. The harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
After selecting and destemming the De Martino Legado Carmenère grapes, they are placed in tanks to begin a cold maceration and fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then ages in used French oak barrels for 12 months.
Made from exceptional vineyards, De Martino Legado Carmenère is an intense, deep and elegant wine that showcases the great potential of the Carmenère variety in the Maipo Valley.
