Characteristics Conceito Contraste
Conceito Contraste is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz varieties in the Portuguese DOC Douro sub-region by the Conceito wines family winery.
After training in different wineries in Bordeaux, California, New Zealand and South Africa, the young winemaker Rita Ferreira Marqués took charge of Conceito wines. This is a family winery that started out in the forties with 86 hectares of vineyards. It is now known for combining tradition with innovation. Under the motto “together uphill”, it is part of a group of young winemakers in the area called “Young Winemakers of Portugal”.
Conceito Contrast comes from 40-year-old vines planted on slate soil. They use traditional and environmentally-friendly agriculture. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested by hand and taken to the winery in 20 kg boxes.
When the Conceito Contrast grapes reach the winery, they are destemmed and pressed. The must is placed in stainless steel tanks and fermentation begins at a controlled temperature with gentle pump overs. Finally, the wine ages in used French oak barrels for 18 months.
Conceito Contrast is a red wine made with DOC Douro’s native varieties and stands out for its perfect balance between freshness and concentration.
