The winery must have suffered a major setback when its director Johan Wilhelm Burmester died in 1885, swallowed up by a wave while contemplating a strong storm on the Atlantic coast of Foz do Douro. A man who followed in the footsteps of the brand's founders, the Englishmen Henry Burmester & John Nash in 1750, and who skillfully consolidated the brand with his expansive character. More than 250 years of history where generation after generation, this brand of British origin has been able to introduce itself in more than 30 countries thanks to the quality of its Port and Douro wines.
Burmester Late Bottled Vintage is a wine made from a blend of the native Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela varieties grown on terraces at the foot of the Atlantic Ocean. In the winery, following the traditional method, the grapes are crushed in granite "lagares" and then the wine is transferred to fermentation tanks where they continue fermenting until the optimum sugar level is reached. This stoppage is done with the addition of spirits. The wine is then aged in large oak vats and bottled without any prior treatment after a period of 4 to 6 years. This late bottling gives the wine a surprising rusticity and vigor. A harmonious LBV which favors elegance.
Burmester LBV 2015 is a fortified wine with delicate and varied aromas of ripe tropical fruits combined with notes of cocoa, chocolate and light toasted wood. The palate is sweet, rich and slightly dry. A wine with a pleasant acidity, powerful tannins and a fruity finish with subtle woody taste. The finish is long and delicate.
