Beronia III AC 2016 is a mature red wine with intense aromas of ripe black fruit, notes of pink flowers and hints of spices. On the palate it’s nervo, full and enveloping. A wine with silky tannins and a long, persistent finish.
A red wine arising from and for friendship. This is how Beronia III aC, the red wine produced by the Beronia winery in Ollauri, in the heart of La Rioja Alta (northern Spain) can be defined.
Specifically, these wineries were founded in the 1970s by a group of friends united by their love of wine and gastronomy. Today, half a century later and under the supervision of oenologist Matías Calleja, these wineries have become a benchmark of tradition and innovation, investing heavily in R&D and producing distinguished premium wines such as Beronia III aC.
Beronia III aC comes from the centenary and pre-phylloxeric vines located at the foot of the Cantabria mountain range, very close to the banks of the Ebro. There, these 900 hectares of their own plots and those of outside producers have been certified as singular vineyards. This title, which covers territories with particular characteristics, guarantees the good quality of the grapes which grow influenced by an Atlantic climate on clay-limestone, clay-ferrous and alluvial soils.
In the cellar, Beronia III aC undergoes cold maceration for several days. This operation is repeated after fermentation, which takes place at 26ºC, which is also followed by periodic pumping over. Finally, Beronia III aC will be aged for a year in new French oak barrels, where it will remain for 6 months. This wood, which has a much finer pore than American oak, will soften the wine. After this time, Beronia III aC will again be racked into another French oak barrel (but in this case semi-new), where it will be aged for 15 months.
