Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Mühlpoint Smaragd is a Grüner Veltliner variety white wine produced by the Alzinger winery in Wachau.
Alzinger is one of the wineries located in the prestigious Wachau Valley. The estate, located in the town of Dürnstein, has mainly Riesling and Grüner Veltliner variety vineyards. The family used to only grow grapes, but since Leo. Alzinger Sr. took over in 1983, they began making and selling their own wines. An honest, elegant and quality work that is kept alive through his son Leo Jr.
Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Mühlpoint Smaragd is a direct result of the Wachau Valley landscape. This valley lives under the influence of the Danube river which results in complex grapes that are full of nuances. The vineyard is located at the bottom of the hillside and is characterised by deep layers of clay in the soil. The vines are cultivated by hand and the harvest is carried out manually.
When the harvested grape reaches the winery, it is pressed and allowed to macerate for about 24 hours. Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Mühlpoint Smaragd is vinified at a controlled temperature with selected yeasts. Before it is bottled, the wine is clarified and filtered.
Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Mühlpoint Smaragd is a dry white wine that reveals the full quality of the native Grüner Veltliner variety through its natural alcohol content of 12.5%.
